Best 22lr Revolver - Modern .22 semi-automatic pistols may get more attention than older revolvers—especially if you're a competitive shooter—but rimfire rifles still serve a purpose. They can be very accurate to shoot small game and have a distinct advantage on the court. For example, they are safer. When you fire the revolver, the action stops. This means that there is only empty rice in the room - something to consider when handling or picking up a rabbit or chipmunk with a head injury.
Many revolvers have longer barrels to aid accuracy (which is why most hunting rifles are rimfire and centerfire revolvers). Semi-autos tend to be smaller, lighter, and have a higher ammo capacity, so they can be good in areas where wheel guns don't work. But if you are really looking for a better shooting position, a revolver is best.
Best 22lr Revolver
There are three rimfire revolvers that I would classify as must-haves: the Smith & Wesson Model 63, the Ruger Single Six Convertible, and the Harrington & Richardson Model 999 Sport. These firearms run the gamut of single-action, double-action, rotary, and top-break, however, all three deserve a place on the short list of shooting models.

The J-Frame S&W Model 63 is a direct descendant of the company's Kit 34 (1958-1991) six-shot rifle. But aside from its benefits as "preventing the pillager box," in the current drought and lack of ammunition-which affects the availability of .38 Special far more than 9mm-this eight-shot little 3-inch stainless steel is a great study for me. Model 36. . .38. They have the same overall dimensions (7.3 inches). The rimfire M63 weighs 24.8 ounces, only slightly heavier than the 3-inch M36 at 22 ounces.
You can buy a lighter alloy version-in 317-but at 11.7 ounces, it doesn't feel quite right, and it's a lot harder to get accurate if you don't have a lot of experience with it. gun
Besides the obvious differences in cost, explosion, and recoil fatigue, the Model 63 has many advantages. After I found the best brand of ammunition for my 63, I quickly realized that I shot more than I could hold (which is true of most of my handguns).
In my role as a .38 expert, the adjustable sights of the Model 63 allow me to practice effectively with most .22 Long Rifle brands of ammunition I can find. Aesthetically, I can live without the red fiber optic up front, but I don't want to change it. My 63 trigger pull is just under 2 pounds, which is impressive for a single action.
Top 9mm Everyday Carry Revolvers
To estimate the target potential of a small revolver, I shot several groups of sandbags at 25 meters. Using Aguila 40-Grain Super Extra .22 LR HV solid, I can consistently produce groups of eight-shot 2-inch. My best was a six-shot group that measured just under an inch — a testament to the single-action trigger and good ammunition.
In 1953, Bill Ruger saw a shortage of single-action revolvers in the pistol market. Thirteen years after its debut, my father spent $40 on a used revolver for my birthday. At that time, it was converted to .22 LR / .22 WMR double barrel - you can fire two cartridges from the gun.
Mine is a 6.5 inch barrel model. It can still have a fixed sight on the 5.5-inch trim. Adjustable sights became available in 1964 with the debut of the Super Single-Six Convertible because the variable point-of-impact with rimfire (magnum or non-magnum) was great for keeping up with fixed sights. Additionally, adjustable sights with higher specs are easier on aging eyes.
There are so many variants of the Single-Six (and Single-7, Single-9 and Single-10) that you don't have to choose a Convertible. There are also currently 11 models of .22 LR / .22 WMR Convertibles listed in the Ruger catalog.
Wmr Vs. 22 Lr
Most interesting to me is the 0662, a 7.5-inch stainless revolver with an integral mount on a ribbed barrel and a black laminate mount. And at an MSRP of $1,089 - even accounting for inflation - it's a bit steeper than the old model's used price.
I have chronographed WMR .22 with 30-45 bullet weight. Of course, the lighter 30-grain Hornady V-Max cartridge took the top velocities, averaging 1,727 fps. In contrast, the top entry is the LR Aguila 30-Grain Super Maximum, which clocks in at 1,365 fps. This is a difference of 362 fps with a projectile of the same weight.
For accuracy, the best .22 WMR results I could get were from the Hornady 45-Grain FTX Critical Defense, which averaged 1,326 fps from my 6.5-inch barrel. It's not the fastest, but it produced sub-2-inch groups at 25 yards. The best LR .22 entry shot was the old Winchester Wildcat, which produced clusters less than an inch in size.
Of course, the tactile pleasure of putting the hammer on half-cock to turn the cylinder has been lost to single-action traditionalists since the new Single-Six was introduced in 1973. A distinctive feature of the new model is the transmission rod system. Now all you have to do is turn the cylinder to open the loading gate.
Rossi Princess 22lr Revolver
Many consider older models to have superior triggers. I can't argue. Mine breaks cleanly at 2.5 lbs. Fortunately, you still have a long one-action lock time to contend with, so good follow-up technique is essential.
If a .22 revolver qualifies as a sleeper, it has to be the Harrington & Richardson Model 999 Sportson, a 9-shot double action made from 1932 to 1986. The S&W M63 is quite good, but the H&R - although it looks bad in comparison - handles and shoots exceptionally well. Even at the end of production (which coincided with the closing of the H&R factory in 1986) it cost less than $200.
Model, featuring a 6-inch barrel and two-piece walnut grip panel. It is in good shape and weighs 34 ounces unloaded. In 1974 the M999 was redesigned with a transfer bar. But this old one has the traditional aesthetic pleasure of a hammer firing pin set on a jeweled hammer spur. The top break action allows the cylinder to be quickly removed for cleaning. And throwing away the empty waste at the same time is helpful, but sometimes it requires a wrist movement to remove the rice that has been wasted.
Wide, adjustable sights are easy to reach, and windage adjustments can be made using the rear sight. The height can be changed with a small screw on the front, just above the muzzle.
Ruger Wrangler 22lr Revolver
For the M999 accuracy test, I used three brands of .22 LR: Federal Gold Medal 40-grain, Sellier & Bellot Club 40-grain, and Eley 42-grain Contact Subsonic. At 25 yards, the Eley 9-shot group averaged a hair under 2 inches, winning the competition, but just barely. And all groups contain sub-inch groups of at least four photos.
The single trigger pull on the H&R is 3 pounds, which greatly contributes to the M999's shootability. However, the double pull is significantly less tolerable, breaking in return 11.5 pounds. Given the use of the M999, there is little reason to resort to the trigger. Is the .22 LR a good pistol choice for concealed carry? Most of the time, probably not. But in some cases, .22 can shoot just fine, and you can always use an alternative. Focus on the best among the smallest and lightest .22s available, but I have also covered some compact models.

In Parts 4 and 5 of our pocket pistol series, I discuss the pros and cons of relying on the humble .22 LR for self-defense. These cartridges have below-average ballistic performance, and feed and misfire failures are more common than centerfire ammunition. But the .22 LR ammunition also offers the unique advantages of very low recoil and low cost. For some people, this means that if they carry a .22 pistol, they are more likely to practice, improve their skills and gain confidence.
Classic .22 Rimfire Revolvers
Since the problem of reliability of .22s is a very real concern, it is even more important than usual to choose a rifle that performs accurately in this caliber. I would like to offer some advice based on my experience and since this is part of our pocket pistol series, I will start with small handguns and then finish with some rather large guns.
If you want to carry a small .22, a double-barreled revolver is probably fine, as it allows you to avoid many of these reliability issues. They're not perfect, especially if you don't keep them clean, but for the most part, the worst is possible.
