Best 40 Cal - The .40 S&W is a brand that has seemed to lose its power in recent years due to many Law Enforcement and 3-letter Federal agencies switching back to 9mm caliber pistols.
But the .40 S&W is still very important and shouldn't just be pushed to the rink because many hobbyists still love to carry it around and do it every day.
Best 40 Cal
The .40 S&W gained popularity after the 1986 shooting in Miami involving the FBI in which two agents were killed and five others were wounded.

The assistants at the time were carrying their ammunition (caliber in .357), rifles (caliber 9mm), and rifles.
The aftermath of the incident prompted the FBI to begin looking for a new model to replace its weapons.
This new circuit should provide more flexibility and should provide more power than or equal to the carriers and the assistants.
The .40 S&W was designed to be re-introduced to mid-frame handguns by matching the performance of the 10mm Auto cartridge.
S&w Vs .45 Acp
In developing the 10mm Auto, Smith & Wesson found they could eliminate airspace in the case and shrink the 10mm case to fit the frame of a 9mm semi-auto pistol.
This also allowed them to create an 18 grain bullet that produced the same velocity as the FBI.
There are many types of stock for your .40 S&W, and most are between 155-180 grains. I will touch on some of these below.
The 155 Federal HST cartridge produces approximately 1,160 ft/s at the muzzle and 463 ft. lbs. of power in purpose. Compare that to the 115 grain 9mm, which comes in at 1,180 feet per second and 355 foot-pounds.

The 165-grain Winchester FMJ (as pictured) has a muzzle velocity of 1,060 ft/s and a 413 ft. in purpose
A 180-grain bullet will achieve a muzzle velocity of about 990fps and 392 ft-lbs of force on target. This equates to an average of 904 fps at 100 yards all the while retaining 84 percent of its initial power.
You should have no problem finding a rifle chambered in .40 S&W. Although its popularity has declined in recent years, there is still a large market for firearms available from all major manufacturers.
The Glock 22 was introduced in the early 1990s and was one of the first Glock pistols chambered in .40 S&W.
Pistol Ammunition Information
According to Glock's website, it is "the most popular law enforcement handgun in the United States." However, I believe this statement may be a long shot, as even the FBI has been converted to 9mm.
This rifle was chambered in .40 S&W 15+1 shot packs, barrel length 4.49 inches and width 1.26 inches.
If you are shooting a Glock 22 for the first time and are used to shooting a full size Glock 17 (9mm), you may be surprised at the similarities.
Although you will notice that the recoil of the 40 cal is greater, your ability to get back on target will not be affected as much.
Part 3: 9mm Vs 40 Caliber
Since the G22 has been around for over 30 years, accessories aren't hard to come by.
If you have a Gen3 or newer, every major manufacturer of power tools will have something. Like the Surefire X300U.
When looking for a holster for your G22, unless you're a giant of a man, you probably won't be looking for an IWB style holster (but options are available if you want to go this route).
Holster options are plentiful when it comes to carrying your G22. You can see a selection of We The People pistols.

Like its older brother the Glock 22, the Glock 23 was introduced in the early 1990s. With a short barrel length of 4.02-in and a magazine capacity of 13 + 1, the G23 has a width of 1.26 inches.
This small rifle allows you to use magazines from the G22 for more power and in my opinion is one of the best sniper rifles (more on that below in the FAQ).
You can hide this gun in any popular way such as extensions or the 3 o'clock position.
As with the G22 you have a variety of accessories at your disposal. From lights and lasers to rail mounting, a variety of aftermarket grips and magazine accessories are available to add power when holding your large magazines.
Rounds Of Bulk .40 S&w Ammo By Underwood
Whether it's OWB or IWB, you should have no problem finding a gun that will fit your needs.
For shooters looking for a carry pistol, Glock has a solution for that as well in their Glock 27.
Coming standard with a 9-round capacity and a 3.43-inch barrel, you have an easy-to-conceal option in .40S&W.
So, you can easily pick up your Glock 27 and have 13 or 15 rounds with a simple magazine change.

Although according to their website the full size and compact models of the M&P are now produced in 2.0 models, you can find these guns in a new factory and with the support of the usual S&W policy.
With a 1-inch profile for easy concealment and a 3.1-inch barrel, the S&W M&P Shield .40 offers single-stack magazines in 6- or 7-round capacities.
Their XD line of rifles offers a compact model with a 5-inch barrel, a compact model with a 4-inch barrel, and a sub-compact in a 3-inch barrel.
Although I couldn't find any documentation, looking at Springfield's website it looks like they only offer the XD .40 in government compatible versions.

This means that the models listed as new on their website only come with 10 round magazines. You can still find older XD models with higher power from a number of other sites or order larger magazines.
Like most ammo for the last few years, single point .40 has been hard to come by but these days it seems like almost every online retailer and gun store has a .40 back.
If you're looking for in-stock .40 ammo, be sure to check out Brownells, Lucky Gunner, Palmetto State Armory, and Optics Planet.
50 round boxes of FMJ will run you between $25-$35, which brings each round north of 0.50 cents per round.
Glock 22 40 Cal. In Three Colors
I'm sure you can find deals that lower this price a bit depending on the grain you want, and in most cases buying the 40 S&W in the case will save you money.
This debate has been going on for years, probably since the .40S&W came back in 1990.
But when you look at the data and even with new technology developed that makes the 9mm better the 40 cal still comes out on top.
The 40 cal produces a lot of energy and delivers a lot of thermal energy to the target to create dangerous and large wound patterns on the target.

After I got my CCW, the first gun I bought for EDC was a Smith and Wesson M & P compact in .40 cal along with a Harry's Holsters IWB holster.
Back then I didn't know nearly what I do now about guns but I went with the S&W because it happened to be at the gun store I bought it from and it was a reasonable price for a college student's concealed handgun.
That said, I liked the adjustable sizes that came with the M&P and the concealability it offered.
Shortly after purchasing the M&P, I picked up a used Glock 22, and my love of Glock products began. I had an M&P compact until I got out of college when I decided I wanted something a little bigger and easier to conceal.

That's when I loaded my Glock 23 and never looked back. In my opinion, the Glock 23 (Again from previous posts, you know I'm a Glock fanboy) is the best .40 caliber pistol on the market.
The ammunition available on the Glock 23 seems endless. With the new models available in the Glock MOS range, you can easily mount the optic and provide greater accuracy.
Now I know there will always be an argument about the 9mm being better than the .40 but I have shot thousands of .40 rounds compared to the 9mm.
It's comforting to me, I feel like a shooter I can handle the recoil that comes with the weight of a .40 caliber round in 9mm.

The size of the gun gives me a lot of carrying options if I want to carry an accessory, have it on the lower back of my back, or a suppressor.
Aside from the other family guns in my collection that were passed down from my grandfather and father, my Glock 23 is one that will always be a part of my collection and my constant carry on defense. my family and myself.
